with Otaru Beer at Leibspeise! In Germany, the drinking of beer requires the proper surroundings. The so-called "proper surroundings" is called Gemütlichkeit, or roughly translated, "atmosphere." One needs the right interior that matches the beer and the food which in turn creates this Gemütlichkeit (Atmosphere). This Gemütlichkeit creates a wonderful feeling while drinking beer. This is why Otaru Beer has produced this shop called "Leibspeise." Leibspeise literally means my favorite food. With this concept in mind, Otaru Beer's German Brew Master sourced the best German-made sausages, sauerkraut and bread available. These are the food items which, when properly put together, tastes best with the various types of beer brewed at Otaru Beer. Leibspeise's food enhances the flavor of our beer, and our beer enhances the flavor of the food.
Our food is all real German food. Our meat dishes are prepared by a German master sausage maker. He makes all the traditional sausages available in Leibspeise from scratch. He also makes our sour kraut the old traditional way! It is naturally fermented just like our beer. Most people simply cook cabbage and add vinegar and spices and call it sour kraut. However, real sour kraut is actually slowly fermented until the perfect amount of sourness is developed. This is then seasoned with various herbs and spices and served with various sausages and meats.

No proper beer restaurant would be complete without bread! At Leibspeise, our bread is mixed, fermented and shaped by a traditional German baker for Leibspeise. We then take the bread and actually bake it in our oven at Leibspeise several times throughout the day so we always have fresh bread available for our guests. We currently produce two basic types of bread, Kaiser Rolls and Bretzlin. Bretzlin or the soft pretzel, is the main bread associated with German Beer. Leibspeise Bretzlin are great together with our food or just plain with beer. Do not miss Leibspeise Bretzlin!
Our Kaiser Rolls are baked especially for the purpose of making proper German sandwiches. We generally have six or more different meats available for making wonderful sandwiches. These types of sandwiches are difficult to find in Sapporo, but are available everyday at Leibspeise! Last but not least, Leibspeise has the best rotissery chicken around! We slow roast our chicken to the peak of flavor. As the chicken slowly rotates, it is cooked in its juices. All we add is a little salt and pepper and then we finish our chicken with a liberal dose of Dunkle Beer to make sure the chicken has a very "German" flavor. This is a simple pleasure which can only be experienced at Leibspeise!
